Banting school stabbing: Teen girl charged with attempted murder

BANTING, July 10 - A teenage girl was charged in the Telok Datok Magistrate’s Court today with attempting to murder a Form Three student at a secondary school here last Monday.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Amirul Syafiq Yazid said no plea was recorded from the 15-year-old girl after the charge was read out by a court interpreter before Magistrate Maslinda Selamat.

According to the charge sheet, she is accused of attempting to murder a 15-year-old girl by injuring her with a knife with the intention of causing her death at 9.50am on Monday (July 6) at a secondary school in Banting.

Earlier, the suspect arrived at the court at 8.32am under tight police escort.

Media personnel who arrived earlier were not allowed into the courtroom to follow the proceedings, as the case involved a juvenile accused.

Speaking to the media after the proceedings, Amirul said the teenager was ordered to undergo a mental health assessment at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Tanjung Rambutan, Perak, after the court allowed the prosecution’s application made under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The case was fixed for mention on August 11.

Yesterday, the media reported that resentment towards a friend was believed to have been the reason behind the stabbing of a Form Three student at a secondary school in Banting, Kuala Langat, last Monday.

Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said TAHT based on preliminary investigations and statements recorded from several individuals, including the 10 students named in a viral note on social media, the incident was not linked to bullying.
