Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has been urged by the club's medical chiefs to undergo surgery.
Araujo suffered a thigh injury while on international duty with Uruguay on the weekend.
The stopper is reluctant to go under the knife as it would place his World Cup participation in major doubt.
However, Sport says medical chiefs believe the best option for Araujo would be surgery.
And they have reminded Araujo of the case of Samuel Umtiti, who refused to take the option after a thigh injury before the 2018 World Cup. The Frenchman has been plagued by the injury ever since.
