Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed talks with Deco about the sporting director's post.
Barca are seeking a replacement for Mateu Alemany, who is leaving for Aston Villa next month.
Former Barca star Deco is being considered. Deco is an agent and has acted as an advisor to Barca on South American talent.
Laporta said: "Deco, who already works with us as the club's representative in Brazil, could make the leap to the technical secretariat.
"In case he becomes sporting director, he would have to leave his agency. We talked about it some time ago and it seems that now it is better for him."
