Barcelona president Joan Laporta insists they never considered signing Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.

There's been claims Barca were interested in the Real Madrid legend.

But Laporta said: "There is always a lot of news during the summer transfer window.

"We have a very good relationship with Mendes. I've known him for a long time. Jorge is one of the best agents. He knows how to do his job and I respect him. But the topic of Ronaldo is only part of the 'little history' of football. It's a very sweet story, but you'll always hear a lot of conflicting news about it.

“Ronaldo is a very good professional and he is still in good shape. Cristiano is a very ambitious and competitive player and I'm sure he has a lot of options. He is still a player for Manchester United, an outstanding club that I have a lot of respect for. His future is none of my business."
