Barcelona report PSG to Uefa over ‘chainsaw massacre’ banner

Barcelona have reported Paris Saint-Germain to Uefa after supporters of the French side unveiled a banner displaying a masked man wielding a bloody chainsaw through their opponent’s club crest.

The Halloween-themed tifo also carried the phase ‘Massacre, Parisian style’ and was displayed before PSG defeated Barcelona 4-2 at the Parc des Princes in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The PSG supporters also let off fireworks, creating sparks in the stands as the masked man cut through the Barcelona badge with his chainsaw, which could lead to a punishment from Uefa following an investigation of the match.

The Press Association reported that Barcelona have now lodged a complaint to Uefa over the tifo, while ESPN reported that the Catalan club believe the display was both “overly aggressive and offensive”.

Uefa declined to comment, but its disciplinary body will usually assess reports from the game before deciding on any potential next steps or punishments.

Barcelona suffered their first defeat of the season as they lost to the back-to-back European champions, with late goals from Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz earned the French side victory after Lamine Yamal had equalised.

Meanwhile, PSG have confirmed that star winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee, while Ousmane Dembele and captain Marquinhos are likely to miss the next several weeks due to thigh injuries suffered in the same match.
