A damaged car after a section of the basement ceiling slab collapsed in the parking area of Adani Oyster Society, Gurugram.

A large part of a concrete ceiling slab in the basement parking area of Adani Oyster Society in Sector 102A collapsed onto cars parked below. Startled by the sound of the falling debris, residents who were retrieving their vehicles rushed to safety in panic. Several vehicles were damaged by the heavy chunks of concrete and plaster. According to residents, the incident occurred in the B1 basement parking area of Tower H, where a large section of the ceiling slab, along with heavy chunks of plaster, suddenly gave way and fell onto the parked vehicles. Fortunately, no one was in the area when the debris fell.

According to eyewitnesses, a massive amount of concrete and plaster debris fell from the basement ceiling. The sound of the collapse was so loud that many initially thought it was an earthquake. Residents said people, including children, frequently pass through the parking area. The incident has raised concerns over the structural safety of the society, with many expressing fear and questioning the safety of their homes. Residents have also voiced their anger through social media and the Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA).

“This incident has exposed the poor quality of the builder’s construction. The residents’ primary concern is that the building is only six years old. If concrete slabs and ceiling sections begin collapsing within such a short period, what will be the fate of the society in the next 10 or 20 years?” a resident said. Alka Malhotra, vice-president of the Society RWA, said residents who spent crores of rupees to purchase their homes now feel cheated and unsafe. Repeated attempts to contact the builder and the maintenance agency for their response were unsuccessful.
