SHAH ALAM – Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Malaysia has expressed support for Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s decision to personally look into concerns surrounding the Network School project in Forest City, Johor, describing his response as a reflection of the role elected representatives play in ensuring transparency and accountability.
In a statement, the movement commended Syed Saddiq for responding promptly to public concerns and acknowledging that the matter warrants parliamentary attention.
“BDS Malaysia expresses its appreciation to YB Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman for his commitment to personally investigate the concerns that have been raised regarding the Network School project in Forest City,” it said.
The organisation said Malaysia has consistently maintained a principled stance in support of the Palestinian people and against what it described as Israel’s “regime of occupation, apartheid and genocide.”
It added that any allegations suggesting the possible entry, facilitation or normalisation of Israeli-linked interests in Malaysia should be subject to careful scrutiny in the national interest.
BDS Malaysia also called on the relevant ministries and government agencies to provide full transparency regarding the Network School project, including details of its investors, partners, participants, recruitment processes and any direct or indirect links to Israeli individuals, entities or institutions.
According to the group, openness and accountability are essential to maintaining public confidence in the project.
The movement further urged Members of Parliament from across the political divide to support a thorough and transparent examination of the issue.
It said Malaysia’s solidarity with Palestine should be reflected not only through public statements but also in its policies, institutions and continued opposition to any attempts at normalisation.
The statement concluded by stressing that “justice for Palestine requires vigilance at home as well as solidarity abroad.”
