Residents in the state of Perak have been urged to seek immediate medical treatment if they experience symptoms resembling those of monkeypox.

A. Sivanesan, the Chairman of the State Human Resources, Health, Indian Community Affairs, and National Integration Committee, stated that symptoms of monkeypox include fever, fatigue, headaches, and a rash that begins on the face before spreading to the hands, feet, and other areas of the body. Sivanesan emphasized the contagious nature of the disease and advised that those who test positive should be quarantined. He encouraged the public to exercise caution and undergo health screening if they exhibit any of the specified symptoms. In recent news, the Health Ministry confirmed two cases of monkeypox infection in the country.

The first case involved a foreign male, while the second case was a local male who had been in contact with the first infected individual. The local male tested positive for monkeypox on July 29. No reported cases of the disease have occurred in Perak to date. As a preventative measure, the Perak State Health Department has implemented proactive strategies to limit the spread of the disease.

This includes monitoring high-risk areas such as international entry points. Sivanesan ensures that anyone at risk, including travelers and tourists, will be closely monitored. The Health Department staff are also receiving training to properly manage cases of monkeypox. The public health campaign launched at Aeon Mall Station 18 aimed to raise awareness among the public, specifically regarding skin care and treatment.

The campaign was organized by Quest International University in collaboration with the Perak Health Department. Various free services were offered to the public, including health forums and healthy cooking workshops. Sivanesan commended the effort, recognizing its value in providing beneficial health services to the community. In summary, residents of Perak are advised to seek immediate medical attention if they exhibit symptoms resembling those of monkeypox.
