Kota Kinabalu: Sabah police reminded social media users to be mindful of the content they upload on their platforms to avoid legal repercussions.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said social media users are directly responsible for their posts.

“Police will not hesitate to open investigations on sensitive issues which may contain criminal elements.

He said the reminder also applies to political attacks which are getting heated in the digital world as polling day approaches.

“To address the increasingly concerning issues on social media, the police will continue to collaborate with MCMC,” he said.

He said there was a recent Bukit Aman directive to increase police presence in malls but it was not emphasised in Sabah.

Police are still hunting for a male suspect in his 30s who shot a mall cleaner and later hijacked a car, holding a family hostage for 45 minutes and forcing them to drive him out of Setia Alam in Shah Alam, Selangor last Saturday.
