Sabah ranks third in solving crime cases

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah police’s “no crime too small” approach saw an increase of 145 cases (3.52 pc) to 4,259 cases last year compared to the same period in 2023.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun, however, said the resolution of index crime cases in 2024 was at 81.94 per cent or 3,498 cases.

“The Sabah contingent’s charge rate is first in the country with is 6,129 cases, equivalent to 60.05pc.

Jauteh also presented the Best Accounting Management Recognition Certificate for 2024 from the Ministry of Home Affairs to four district police chiefs, namely Kota Kinabalu, Kota Belud, Tenom and Kudat.

Jauteh, in his address, expressed satisfaction with the Sabah police’s achievements in 2024 where all the KPIs set by Bukit Aman were achieved.

Advertisement“The Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department also showed an increase in the number of cases under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, recording 16,831 cases in 2024 compared to 14,713 cases in 2023, an increase of 2,126 cases (14.5pc).

“Arrests in 2024 were 17,486 people compared to 15,509 people in 2023, an increase of 1,980 people (12.8pc).

“Charges for supply and possession and Poison Act cases numbered 5,157 compared to 5,525 cases opened, an achievement of 93.34pc.

“The Sabah Contingent Narcotics Investigation Department also recorded drug seizures valued at RM 6.98 million in 2024 compared to 2023, which was RM6.96 million, with a difference of almost RM22,000,” he added.

He went on to say that for the Commercial Crime Investigation Department, investigation papers were opened for 2,733 cases in 2024 compared to 2,474 cases in 2023, an increase of 259 cases (10.5pc). Charges in 2024 were 39.88pc, exceeding the set KPI set at 35pc.

The State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department meanwhile recorded a total of 20,828 accidents in 2024 compared to 19,621 cases in 2023, an increase of 1,207 cases (5.7pc).

A total of 201,093 summonses in 2024 were issued for various offences and the summons settlement rate exceeded the 5pc threshold set, at 32.99pc.

Jauteh said the Sabah JSPT contingent is also the best contingent in Malaysia in terms of traffic investigation paper settlement achievement, which is 97.94pc of cases completed compared to the KPI of 90pc.

“Similarly, the number of charges filed is also the best achievement in Malaysia with an achievement of 97.94pc compared to the KPI set at 85pc.

“Sabah JSPT contingent officer ASP Jenuil B. Yasap was also awarded as the best traffic officer in Malaysia,” he highlighted.

He told Sabah police to see themselves from both the employee and employer’s perspective whether if they have done the job and if it was done accordingly.
