Fatehgarh Sahib Deputy Commissioner Sona Thind on Thursday ordered the cleaning of all drains and seasonal choes while asking officials to indentify buildings that could be used as relief centres in a flood-like situation.
She gave the orders while reviewing the flood preparedness ahead of the monsoon.
The DC stressed that negligence in flood-control works would not be tolerated and asked all departments to ensure timely execution of assigned tasks.
She directed all sub-divisional magistrates to personally monitor flood-prevention works. Stressing the need for improved sanitation and drainage management, she ordered immediate cleaning of drains in urban areas and removal of blockages causing waterlogging to prevent the outbreak of diseases.
The DC also instructed officials to take strict action against those obstructing the natural flow of water or causing hindrance in drainage channels. She said a district-level flood control room had been established and residents could report flood-related issues or seek information on telephone number 01763-232838.
‘Clean drains, canals’
Thind directed officials to ensure desilting and cleaning of seasonal choes, canals and drains passing through the district. She also asked the authorities to keep culverts under-bridges and railway crossings free from obstruction to facilitate smooth flow of rainwater.
All BDPOs and panchayat officials were instructed to identify buildings that could be used as relief centres during a flood-like situation and submit reports at the earliest.
The Civil Surgeon was asked to ensure adequate stock of essential medicines.
