Bejoy sets PH indoor women 800m record in gold finish in Washington

MANILA, Philippines — Bernalyn Bejoy posted a new Philippine indoor women's 800m record as she claimed a gold medal at the Inland NW Invitational in Spokane, Washington in the United States on February 1.

Bejoy clocked 2:08.36 in the 31-athlete field to establish the new national women indoor record (pending ratification).

The 24-year-old Bejoy topped the previous national record of 2:13.44 set by Jessica Barnard at the 2014 Husky Classic in Seattle.

"Congratulations to Bernalyn Bejoy for taking 1st place in the Women’s Indoor 800m at the 2026 Inland NW Invitational in Spokane with a time of 2:08.36, setting a new Philippine indoor 800m record (pending ratification)," the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) wrote in a social media post Monday.

Bejoy bested Emma Stolte of Portland State in a photo finish as the latter timed 2:08.51 for the silver medal.

Hazel Kunkel of Northwest Nazarene seized the bronze medal after submitting a time of 2:16.59.

A three-time bronze medalist at the Southeast Asian Games in Thailand last December, Bejoy is preparing for the Asian Indoor Championships set from February 6 to 8 in Tianjin, China

The De La Salle trackster started her indoor season on January 18 at the Pacific Reno Indoor Track MLK Meet, timing 57.81 in the 400m short track and 2:13.51 in the 800m short track.
