Belgium booked their place in the World Cup 2026 round of 16 with a ludicrously dramatic 3-2 win over Senegal.
Belgium trailed 2-0 with three minutes remaining but scored two late goals to force extra time before Youri Tielemans held his nerve to convert a controversial penalty in the 125th minute to book a clash against either USA or Bosnia, who play later this evening.
Habib Diarra tapped in after Ismaila Sarr’s header hit the post to give Senegal a deserved lead in the 25th minute before Sarr smashed the ball past Thibaut Courtois to double the lead shortly after half-time.
But substitute Romelu Lukaku pulled one back in the 87th minute and captain Tielemans equalised less than three minutes later with a header to force extra-time before stepping up to net from 12 yards in the 125th minute.
