MANILA, Philippines -- De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde doused the streaking Mapua University, 71-69, at the San Juan Arena Monday to snap its 2-game skid in the NCAA Season 102 men's basketball tournament.
Winning their last six games, the Cardinals went on a 6-1 run capped by three free throws by Marc Cuenco in the last 18 seconds to pull within one, 69-70.
Jhommel Ancheta split his charities in the final nine seconds but Cuenco missed his last-gasp trey, as the Blazers escaped with the win.
Ian Torres punched 15 points, four assists, and three rebounds for Benilde, which defeated Mapua anew and improved to 7-3 for a 3-way tie with San Beda and Jose Rizal University at the top of Group A.
Mapua dropped to 6-4 for fourth place in the same group.
