PAPAR: Berjaya Corporation Bhd (BCorp) has donated a 28-seat coaster bus to SMK St Joseph Papar through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative implemented by the Berjaya Cares Foundation (BCF).
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the donation would provide the school with more organised transport for students taking part in educational visits, competitions and other activities outside the school.
“I am pleased to witness the handover of the bus by Berjaya Corporation Bhd founder and adviser and Berjaya Cares Foundation chairman Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun to the school’s principal, Jenith Mahibol,” he told reporters after the handover ceremony, here, Sunday.
He said the initiative stemmed from BCorp’s intention, conveyed to him, to carry out a CSR programme at a school in Papar, and was in line with the Madani Adopted School Programme’s efforts to strengthen cooperation between the Government, corporate sector and community.
“As KPDN has selected SMK Benoni as its Madani Adopted School for 2026, I proposed that Berjaya Corporation Bhd’s CSR initiative be implemented at SMK St Joseph,” he said, adding that BCF also donated 500 food baskets for distribution to students from needy families.
Armizan said the school, which had educated generations of Papar residents for 73 years, held special sentimental value for him as he had studied there in 1992, adding that the bus would help broaden students’ experiences, nurture their talents and build their confidence.
“I believe the private sector’s role in the education agenda needs to be further strengthened. Under the whole-of-nation approach, developing our children’s potential requires cooperation among the Government, educators, parents, community and corporate sector,” he said.
