A signal box failure near the northern German town of Lüneburg is disrupting long-distance rail traffic between Hamburg and Berlin, rail operator Deutsche Bahn said on Wednesday.
The disruption has led to delays and cancellations on services between the two cities, with high-speed ICE trains currently running only every two hours on the route.
Deutsche Bahn said the technical fault is not expected to be resolved until Thursday.
A spokesman for the operator emphasized that trains are still running on the route but said services are reduced. "Our technicians are already working intensively to resolve the disruption," he added.
Passengers were advised to check their journey details on the Deutsche Bahn website or app before travelling.
The Hamburg-Berlin line - one of Germany's busiest routes - has been undergoing major renovation and has been at least partially closed since August 2025. Part of the line was reopened on May 15, with full service expected to return on June 14.
