SHAH ALAM - Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) will unveil its Shadow Budget 2027 on Oct 6, three days before Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to table the national budget in the Dewan Rakyat.
Bersama founders Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, together with party president Syukri Razab, said the initiative was part of the party’s policy development process to shift Malaysian politics towards a stronger focus on competing ideas and policy solutions.
In a joint statement on Wednesday, they said the Shadow Budget would allow the public to scrutinise Bersama’s proposals for making the country’s fiscal and taxation policies more sustainable.
“This would subsequently allow the policy financing capacity and national programmes contained in the Kancil Papers to be assessed.
“The Kancil Papers are policy papers detailing structural problems related to the economy, politics and society that require immediate solutions,” they said.
They said Bersama would use each Kancil Paper to put forward solutions that distinguish its approach from those of other political parties.
The first series of the Kancil Papers will be launched on Sept 27, followed by the Shadow Budget presentation on Oct 6.
The second series is scheduled for Oct 24, while the third will be presented on Nov 28.
The Bersama leaders said they hoped the emphasis on policies and solutions would encourage other political parties to compete based on policy platforms rather than focusing mainly on sentiment-driven issues.
The party also announced the first six members of its Bersama Policy Panel, comprising individuals with varied professional backgrounds and experience.
They are Associate Professor Dr Ibnor Azli Ibrahim, Dr Feizal Fakurruddin, Datuk Dr Rais Hussin Mohamed Ariff, Khoo Kay Peng, Dr Hamidon Abdul Rahman and John Lee Von Leon.
The panel will work closely with the party's policy group while independently monitoring the development of Bersama's policy positions.
Each Kancil Paper will undergo a feedback process with the policy panel before consultation sessions with stakeholders are held. The final drafts will then be opened to public feedback before being officially launched.
