PARTI Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (BERSATU) has appointed five members to a newly established Appeal Board in a move aimed at strengthening party governance and stabilising its leadership direction amid ongoing internal discord.
Party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin said the decision was reached after discussions with senior leaders to ensure that future actions are more structured and strategically focused, particularly at the party’s top decision-making level.
“Any proposal brought before the Appeal Board will be reviewed carefully, and if found suitable or reasonable, it will be implemented,” Muhyiddin told reporters after chairing the Supreme Leadership Council (MPT) meeting at Menara Yayasan Selangor last night.
“Those appointed are members of the MPT who will provide strong recommendations for immediate implementation,” he said.
According to party secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, the Appeal Board will be chaired by former Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan @ Harun and will include Datuk Seri Zulkifli Noordin, Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof, Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad, and Datuk Fahimee Ismail.
Addressing the party’s internal challenges, Muhyiddin, who is also the Pagoh MP, said the meeting reached a consensus to find immediate solutions to reunite members under a strong and cohesive leadership.
“Our main concern is the welfare of the people. Our priority now is to prepare for the Sabah state election. That is why we need a strong team. We have agreed to avoid any further internal actions or disputes. We are aware of the situation and have agreed that it must stop. Nothing more should be raised,” he said.
The meeting, which began at 8.40pm, saw the attendance of key leaders including Deputy President Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, Secretary-General Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Information Chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz, and MPT members Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah and Datuk Rosol Wahid.
Vice-President Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the near-full attendance reflected strong support for the party’s top leadership.
“The meeting went very well under the president’s chairmanship, with only two members absent due to official state events. We discussed important matters, especially preparations for the Sabah state election,” he said.
Ahmad Faizal urged members to adhere to the party constitution and remain loyal to its leadership.
“If all members follow the party constitution and stay loyal to the leadership as our religion teaches, any disagreements can be resolved through proper party channels. God willing, no harm will come to the party,” he added.
The meeting took place against the backdrop of internal tensions following the recent expulsion of Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan and the suspension of Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal by the party’s Disciplinary Board.
The disciplinary action came amid speculation of divisions within BERSATU after a document, allegedly signed by 16 MPs, surfaced on social media expressing concern over the leadership’s handling of disciplinary matters.
The letter reportedly described the expulsion and suspension as “unwise” and potentially damaging to public support for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition. None of the alleged signatories have confirmed or denied the authenticity of the document.
Wan Ahmad Fayhsal has also claimed that the Disciplinary Board’s actions were politically motivated and targeted at Deputy President Hamzah Zainudin, who also serves as Opposition Leader.
He further criticised Azmin, alleging that the secretary-general was acting as a “Madani Trojan horse.”
Despite the tensions, Muhyiddin’s arrival at Menara Yayasan Selangor on Tuesday night was met with cheers of ‘Long Live Tan Sri, Longevity for Abah’ (“Hidup Tan Sri, Hidup Abah!”) from supporters gathered outside the party headquarters.
Meanwhile, Deputy President Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin attended the party’s Supreme Leadership Council (MPT) meeting amid escalating internal tensions.
The Opposition Leader was seen leaving the Bersatu headquarters quickly after the meeting, avoiding questions from the media.
Before his departure, Hamzah was observed exchanging friendly greetings with former Alor Gajah MP Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof shortly after the meeting concluded around 10.30pm.
The Larut MP’s presence drew the attention of both media representatives and Bersatu grassroots members, who had gathered outside the party headquarters since 7pm. - November 5, 2025
