KUALA LUMPUR – In a strong rebuttal to recent claims made by suspended Bersatu MPs Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal and Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan, Johor Bersatu has declared that both do not have the locus standi to comment on the leadership of the party.

The state chapter firmly reaffirmed that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin remains the most qualified and capable leader to guide the party and the country.

In a press statement issued today, Johor Bersatu chief Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal expressed disappointment with the accusations from the duo, who have both criticised Muhyiddin’s suitability as the next prime minister.

The party’s leadership described the remarks as baseless and disrespectful, emphasising that Muhyiddin’s track record and contributions to both the party and the nation remain unquestionable.

“Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has proven his leadership capabilities, especially during the most challenging times, such as the global health and economic crises,” the statement read.

“His leadership, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the people and the nation’s interests continue to make him the most trusted figure to lead Malaysia if given the mandate.”

This comes after the two former members voiced their criticism of his leadership on the Trick Lama podcast recently.

The duo accused Muhyiddin of poor judgment, favouritism towards certain leaders, and actively undermining Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, leading to a weakened Perikatan Nasional (PN).

The scathing critique was launched during an appearance on the Trick Lama podcast on Tuesday, hosted by Big Boom Media’s Group Executive Director Datuk Ahirudin Attan, better known as Rocky Bru, and Scoop’s Editor-in-Chief Terence Fernandez.

“I’m sorry, I love Tan Sri Muhyiddin, he brought me into politics, but he’s no longer viable and tenable to be the next Prime Minister of Malaysia,” Wan Fayhsal, who is also Machang MP, said unequivocally.

The statement also addressed the ongoing debate about party leadership, stating that such discussions should have concluded once the party’s Disciplinary Board had made its decisions.

Johor Bersatu expressed concern that continuous public attacks on the leadership only served to weaken internal unity, giving political rivals an opportunity to exploit the situation.

“As members of Bersatu, we must show discipline and loyalty to the party’s cause. Publicly undermining our leadership only weakens our position,” the statement added.

The statement also clarified that Wan Fayhsal and Wan Saiful, having been sacked or suspended, no longer held the right to make such judgments about the party’s direction or leadership. It stressed that Bersatu would not be swayed by the views of former members whose actions have been deemed detrimental to the party’s unity and future.

The party further reinforced its decision to nominate Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the sole candidate for prime minister in the upcoming general election, based on his vast experience and proven ability to manage crises.

Johor Bersatu highlighted his extensive service across 11 ministries and his role as the former Menteri Besar of Johor, contrasting his experience with that of other potential candidates, including Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who has only served in five ministries.

According to a recent survey by the MASA Institute, Muhyiddin’s performance satisfaction rating stands at 41%, compared to Anwar’s 30%, further cementing his position as the preferred candidate among the people.

“The leadership decision to nominate Muhyiddin is grounded in merit, experience, and proven leadership, not emotions or personal agendas,” the statement concluded.

Johor Bersatu also called for unity within the party and for members to focus on strengthening the party’s position and preparing for the next election.

It urged other components of the Perikatan Nasional coalition to respect the decisions made by Bersatu’s Disciplinary Board and refrain from accepting individuals who have been expelled or disciplined. - October 24, 2025
