Bersatu still a PN coalition member - Samsuri

BERSATU remains a member of Perikatan Nasional (PN), said PN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, despite earlier claims that its membership had been revoked.

Samsuri said Bersatu's position in the coalition had not changed despite allegations that the party's membership was dropped following its intentions to form a new political coalition.

"As of today, they are still members of the Perikatan Nasional," he said.

Commenting on Bersatu's statement that it wanted to file a report with the Registration of Societies Department (ROS), Samsuri said that Bersatu has the right to take whatever steps it deems appropriate.

"Our country is an independent one and has laws and regulations that have been established.

"So, it is up to them to take whatever steps they deem appropriate, as long as they comply with the constitution and regulations in force," he said.

Earlier, PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang claimed that Bersatu's membership in PN would automatically be dropped following Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's announcement regarding his intention to form a new political coalition.

Abdul Hadi said that the matter was based on the PN Constitution which stipulates that any member of the coalition would be expelled if they joined another political coalition.

However, Bersatu denied the claim by insisting that the party had not made any decision to join any political coalition. – August 9, 2026
