Kota Kinabalu: Sabah is set to become a regional leader in renewable energy with the launch soon of a massive 100-megawatt battery energy storage system (BESS) in Lahad Datu.
This project, poised to be the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia, will significantly bolster Sabah’s power grid capacity and pave the way for a more sustainable energy future.
Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (Sesb) CEO Mohd Yaakob Jaafar said the BESS project would enhance the state’s power generation capabilities by 100MW and provide 400MWh of energy storage.
He said this substantial increase in capacity would not only ensure a more stable and reliable power supply for Sabahans but also create a platform for the integration of additional renewable energy sources such as large-scale solar projects.
