The State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (SVACB) has arrested a patwari, identified as Harsh, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 in Bhiwani.
According to a complaint lodged with the Bureau, the accused had demanded Rs 15,000 from the complainant to facilitate the approval of crop damage compensation from the state government for the years 2022 and 2025.
The complainant alleged that compensation of around Rs 35,000 for crop damage suffered in 2022 had already been credited to his father’s bank account. However, the patwari allegedly pressured him to pay a bribe for securing approval of compensation released in 2023 as well as compensation due for 2025.
After verifying the complaint, an SVACB team laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while allegedly accepting Rs 10,000 from the complainant. The bribe money was recovered from his possession.
A case has been registered against the accused at the SVACB police station in Hisar under Section 308(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation is underway.
