The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing drive against corruption, has caught Sub Inspector Amandeep Singh posted at Anti-Narcotic Task Force, Jalandhar, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the VB said the accused has been arrested on a complaint lodged by a resident of Gohawar village of Goraya.
He said the complainant had alleged that a case under the NDPS Act had been registered against her brother. SI Amandeep Singh had been threatening to implicate other family members and initiate proceedings against their properties.
The complainant further alleged that the accused had already taken a bribe money Rs 6.5 lakh from her on different occasions and was demanding another Rs 2 lakh to spare her sister-in-law from being nominated in the case. The complainant recorded the conversation regarding the demand of bribe.
Unwilling to pay the remaining amount, the complainant approached the VB Unit, Kapurthala. Acting on his complaint, a VB team laid a trap and the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe money of Rs 1 lakh from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. During the trap, Constable Maninder Singh, who was accompanying the accused SI, fled the spot.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at Jalandhar and further investigation into this case is under progress.
