The BJP, under the leadership of district president Nipun Sharma, staged a protest outside the office of the Municipal Election Officer-cum-SDM, Hoshiarpur, against alleged irregularities in voter lists for the upcoming municipal corporation elections. BJP workers raised slogans against the Punjab Government and demanded a fair and transparent election process.
Party leaders alleged that large-scale discrepancies were being made in the voter lists under political pressure and accused Aam Aadmi Party leaders of manipulating the electoral rolls by arbitrarily adding and deleting names. They claimed that such actions were undermining the democratic process.
During the protest, former Mayor Shiv Sood sought information from municipal official Gurmel Singh regarding the certified ward delimitation map. However, the official reportedly stated that no certified map was available with the department, raising serious questions over the transparency of the process. BJP workers strongly protested against the alleged irregularities.
The BJP demanded that objections related to voter lists be handled in a transparent manner and that necessary corrections be made as per the Punjab Government’s gazette notification dated December 31, 2025. The party also sought continuation of the objection submission process on weekends for public convenience.
The Returning Officer-cum-SDM assured the delegation that appropriate directions would be issued to the BLOs concerned to ensure transparency and fairness. BJP leaders warned that if the government failed to stop its “arbitrary functioning,” the party would intensify its agitation from the streets to courts.
