Though newly inducted Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali has ruled out any alliance with BJP or any other central party, senior BJP leader Jagmohan Singh Raju claimed on Wednesday that the Amritpal Singh-led Waris Punjab De was actively seeking a tie-up with the saffron party.

Raju said representatives of Amritpal Singh had met him “not once but several times” a few months ago to explore a possible alliance ahead of the Punjab Assembly poll.

“His emissaries met me seeking a possible alliance with BJP. However, we have made it clear that the party will contest the upcoming assembly elections on its own,” Raju said.

He added that it was “ironic” that while Waris Punjab De publicly criticised and targeted BJP by calling it an “RSS-controlled party”, its representatives were simultaneously approaching BJP for an alliance.

However, Tarsem Singh, working president of Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) and father of Amritpal Singh, strongly denied that any such meetings had taken place.

“We are clear that we will not form any alliance with BJP or any other central party,” he asserted.
