Senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon on Wednesday accused Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari of failing to fulfil the promises and guarantees made to city residents during the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign.
Claiming that “non-performance is the only highlight” of Tewari’s two-year report card, Tandon alleged that the Congress MP had secured votes on the basis of promises that remained unfulfilled.
Tewari had defeated Tandon in the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Chandigarh by a narrow margin.
Referring to the Congress party’s ‘Guarantee Card’ and ‘Paanch Nyay’ agenda, Tandon said one of the key promises was annual financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to women from poor families under the ‘Nari Nyay’ programme.
“Two years have elapsed, but this much-publicised guarantee seems to have been totally forgotten. The reality is that these promises were political slogans aimed at getting votes rather than actionable commitments,” he alleged.
Tandon said his earlier demand for Tewari’s resignation had become even more relevant as the MP had failed to fulfil “even a single major promise” made to Chandigarh’s electorate.
“Most of the time he remains out of station and has increasingly earned the reputation of being a ‘Weekend MP’. This has left the city residents in the lurch,” Tandon said.
He claimed there had been little or no progress on promises relating to free water and electricity, ownership rights for rehabilitation colony residents, regularisation of Housing Board flat alterations, contractual employees and vacant government posts, besides the proposed elimination of the Dadumajra garbage dump through modern waste-management systems.
