Kota Kinabalu: Sabah PKR’s chances in the coming general election may be in doubt following President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s decision to switch focus to bumiputera voters and sacrifice loyal incumbent Sabah head, Datuk Christina Liew.
The bumiputra votes, especially that of non-Muslims in the interior, are courted by Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Star and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS).
It is likely that these votes would go to a local party rather than a peninsula-based one with sentiments in Sabah now strong to emulate the showing in Sarawak recently and reject peninsula parties as seen in PKR losing all seats and DAP being nearly wiped out.
