Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says the Blue Malaysia Agenda will anchor BN’s GE16 manifesto, subject to discussions with component parties and Friends of BN.
KUALA LUMPUR: The “Blue Malaysia Agenda” unveiled by Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will form a key part of Barisan Nasional’s (BN) manifesto for the next general election.
Zahid said the agenda would be offered not only to Umno members but to Malaysians as a whole, with its implementation serving as a key platform for BN in the next election.
“For the BN manifesto, we will include this as a main element and it will become the official manifesto after we discuss it with the leadership of our BN component parties and Friends of BN,” he said at a press conference after the 2026 Umno General Assembly today.
He said the manifesto would be finalised after the preparation process was completed and discussions held with BN component parties and Friends of BN.
Zahid said the agenda, which covers eight major areas, represented Umno’s policy direction and election offering.
“I think it should not be made into a polemic outside by any analysts because this is our policy and our offer, which we have outlined through the eight major agendas under the agenda,” he said.
The announcement places the Blue Malaysia Agenda at the centre of BN’s preparations for the next general election, although its final form will be subject to discussions with the coalition’s component parties and Friends of BN.
In his winding-up speech earlier, Zahid also put Umno on an election footing through the “Tekad 16” framework, which he said would guide the party’s preparations for the 16th General Election (GE16).
The acronym sets out five priorities: strengthening the party, closing ranks, taking control of the political field, sharpening strategy and getting closer to the people.
“Teguhkan parti, Eratkan saf, Kuasai medan, Anjalkan strategi, Dekati rakyat,” he said.
Zahid said the framework was aimed at ensuring Umno was organisationally prepared for the coming election, which he described as a defining moment for the party.
On the Unity Government, Zahid said Umno would remain part of the administration until the end of its term, stressing that the party had no intention of challenging Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim through a no-confidence vote.
“Our position is that we do not oppose any individual, especially the Prime Minister,” he said.
Zahid said a resolution passed at the Umno General Assembly required the party to remain in the Unity Government until the end of its term.
“We will continue to be in it, and as long as we are in it, there will certainly be differences of opinion.
“But we are professional members of the Cabinet and professional party leaders,” he said.
He said differences of opinion should be respected, just as Umno respected differing views expressed by its political partners.
Zahid also defended the wide range of views raised during the Umno assembly, saying statements made by delegates and wing representatives did not necessarily represent the official position of the party leadership.
He said any official position would only be issued through a formal statement by the Umno secretary-general or himself.
“Whatever positions are official are those that we issue officially through a media statement from the secretary-general or myself,” he said.
He said the approach allowed Umno to respect differences of opinion expressed during party congresses and conventions while maintaining its official position.
