KUNAK: Barisan Nasional (BN) is confident of reclaiming the Kunak seat, which it previously held for several election cycles.

Umno Youth Chief Dr Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh said the party believes its candidate can win the seat in the Nov 29 state election, supported by strong cooperation across all levels of the party machinery.

He highlighted the enthusiasm and support from residents, especially young voters, during community engagement programmes, describing it as “extraordinary” and a sign of growing public appetite for change.

The Kunak seat had been a BN stronghold since 1994 before falling to Parti Warisan in the 2018 and 2020 elections.

“The BN is confident of recapturing Kunak. God willing,” Akmal said at a community gathering at the Mostyn District Polling Centre on Sunday, alongside Lahad Datu Umno Youth Chief Datuk Sri Anil Sandhu.

Responding to claims that over 2,000 former Umno members and individuals from other parties had joined Warisan, Akmal stressed that numbers alone do not guarantee victory, and voter support on polling day is what truly matters.

He urged Kunak voters to back the BN candidate, saying this would allow stalled development projects to proceed under new representation.

Akmal expressed confidence that the party’s candidate, a local resident with experience, is capable of serving responsibly as both a leader and people’s representative.
