BN’s election machinery must intensify efforts in the Sabah state election as the coalition contests as underdogs, says deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

MEMBAKUT: Barisan Nasional’s election machinery must intensify efforts in the Sabah state election as the coalition contests as underdogs, said deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

He urged party workers to withstand the strength of other parties, reminding them not to feel intimidated by political giants.

“We must act like termites – we chip away little by little until the ‘giants’ fall,” he told reporters after meeting BN’s party machinery at the Binsulok district polling centre.

Mohamad described the upcoming state poll as crucial for determining Sabah’s future.

He said Sabahans must use this election to establish a stable government capable of attracting investment to the resource-rich state.

“When Sabah has a strong and stable government, investor confidence will return,” he said.

The foreign minister said Sabahans should give their mandate to a party with proven governing ability and strong track record.

“Let us not be swayed by sweet promises… in the end, promises are just promises,” he said.

BN will launch its Sabah state election manifesto on November 22, officiated by UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Mohamad expressed confidence that BN could recapture the Membakut seat in this election.

BN candidate Rusman Dulamit faces a 10-cornered clash including incumbent Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah.

Mohd Arifin won the Membakut seat with a 3,421-vote majority in the previous state election.
