Barisan Nasional wins 48 of 56 seats in Johor state election, retaining its stronghold with a commanding two-thirds majority in the assembly.

JOHOR BAHRU: Barisan Nasional (BN) is heading for a commanding victory in the Johor state election, securing 48 out of the 56 state seats contested, according to unofficial results.

The outcome represents a dominant performance by BN, with the coalition winning across much of the state, including several constituencies previously held by Pakatan Harapan (PH).

Among the seats won by BN are Pulai Sebatang, Benut, Bukit Batu, Bukit Permai, Kota Iskandar, Perling, Larkin, Permas, Johor Jaya, Tiram, Tanjung Surat, Sedili, Endau, Rengit, Senggarang, Parit Raja, Semarang, Bukit Naning, Bukit Kepong, Kemelah, Bukit Pelandok, Tangkak, Gambir, Paloh, Kempas, Parit Yaani, Maharani, Tenang, Bekok, Kahang, Sungai Balang, Jementah, Semerah, Pemanis, Serom, Yong Peng, Sri Medan, Pasir Raja, Machap, Layang-Layang, Penawar, Panti, Johor Lama, Buloh Kasap, Tenggaroh, Pekan Nanas and Kukup.

PH, meanwhile, retained eight seats, namely Senai, Skudai, Puteri Wangsa, Mengkibol, Simpang Jeram, Penggaram, Bentayan and Stulang.

Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) and Muda failed to win any seats in the election.

The unofficial results remain subject to verification by the Election Commission (EC) once the official vote-counting process is completed.

The result marks an improvement for BN compared with the 2022 Johor state election, when the coalition won 40 seats and secured a two-thirds majority in the state assembly.

BN’s strong performance further cements Johor’s position as a traditional stronghold for the coalition and gives Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi’s administration a stronger mandate to govern the state.
