Authorities are investigating a serious bullying case at a boarding school in Teluk Intan, Perak, where a group of students was allegedly subjected to excessive physical punishment by their seniors. The incident, which involved 62 male students from Form 2 and Form 4, has raised concerns about the safety and discipline practices within educational institutions.
According to Bagan Datuk district police chief Superintendent Mohammad Ali Mohd Jali, the incident took place on March 8. Two Form 5 students allegedly forced the juniors to perform 200 push-ups as a form of punishment, an act that left many of them in physical distress. Several students reportedly suffered swollen hands and muscle pain due to the intense exercise.
The matter came to light when seven of the affected students lodged police reports, prompting an official investigation. “As of last Friday, we have received seven reports concerning this case. Our preliminary findings suggest that the seniors attempted to discipline the juniors through an inappropriate and harmful method,” Superintendent Mohammad Ali stated.
Authorities are now awaiting an Order to Investigate (OTI) from the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s (DPP) office before they proceed with taking formal statements from the accused seniors. The case is currently being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which pertains to voluntarily causing hurt.
This incident will spark outrage among parents and the wider community, with many calling for stricter enforcement of anti-bullying policies in schools. Educators and child protection advocates need to emphasize the need for safer disciplinary practices, urging schools to ensure that no student is subjected to harmful physical punishment.
Bullying and hazing within educational institutions have long been a concern, with many incidents often going unreported due to fear of retaliation. This case highlights the importance of speaking up against such misconduct and ensuring accountability for those involved.
