
SANDAKAN: The body of a foreigner who went missing and was believed to have been attacked by a crocodile was found about 1km from his boat at Taman Kenari Tuesday.
The 30-year-old, identified as Ubing Markun, was last seen around 4pm on Monday when he left his house in Kampung Batu Putih and headed to Sungai Sibuga in a small boat.
At about 5.20pm, a witness saw a crocodile attack the victim’s boat. The witness rushed to the scene and found the victim missing. Bite marks believed from a crocodile were found on the boat.

The SAR operation involved personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Civil Defence Force (APM), Marine Police, the Sandakan Wildlife Department’s Crocodile Conflict Unit, as well as 10 local villagers and fishermen using two boats.
Ubing leaves behind two children – a boy aged 11 and a girl aged 9.
A few years ago, the body of another foreigner believed also attacked by a crocodile in the area.
Following that incident, the Sandakan Wildlife Department installed warning signs.
The signage remains in place to this day. The operation concluded at 3.40pm.
