KENINGAU: The disappearance of a boy reported missing with his grandfather in Sungai Pagalan since Tuesday was resolved following the discovery of human remains on the riverbank in Kampung Sigapon on Friday evening.

The remains were confirmed to be those of 10-year-old Muhammad Aidan Ridwan Abdullah, who is believed to have been swept about 23 kilometres from the initial incident location.

District police chief Supt Yampil Garai said police received an emergency call regarding the discovery at 9.17pm after a man fishing in the area detected a strong foul smell and noticed two monitor lizards near the riverbank.

The man later located incomplete human remains at the site and, after returning home to inform his cousin, they contacted police for further action.

Police said the remains, found far from where the victim was reported to have drowned near Taman Bersatu, were in a poor condition, believed to have been affected by wild animals, with the case classified as sudden death pending further investigation and identification procedures before release to the family.
