Boeing shares slide nearly 5% following deadly Air India Dreamliner crash

BOEING shares dropped nearly 5 per cent on Thursday after a fatal crash involving an Air India 787-8 Dreamliner, marking the first deadly accident involving the aircraft model, according to a report by Anadolu Ajansi.

Air India Flight AI171, en route from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, crashed into a medical college complex shortly after take-off. The flight was carrying 242 people, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian. The crew comprised two pilots and 10 cabin crew members.

At 16:15 EDT, Boeing’s stock was trading at US\$203.75, Bernama-Anadolu reported.

The incident has triggered renewed scrutiny over Boeing’s aircraft safety record, as authorities begin their investigation into the cause of the crash. - June 13, 2025
