Sole survivor of Air India crash recounts final moments of doomed flight

  • Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the sole survivor of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, has described the horror of watching people die and recounted his escape from the wreckage.
  • Mr Ramesh, a British national, reported that the plane felt "stuck in the air" shortly after takeoff, followed by green and white flickering lights and a sudden crash into a building.
  • The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, bound for Gatwick, crashed into a medical college, killing 241 of the 242 people on board and at least five medical students.
  • Mr Ramesh said he thought he was dead at first, then saw a gap in the fuselage: “I managed to unbuckle myself, used my leg to push through that opening, and crawled out.”
  • Investigations are ongoing into the cause of the crash. Experts suggest possible engine failure or incorrect flap settings.
