Bolick paces Best Player of Conference derby

NLEX guard Robert Bolick’s heads up plays during the elimination round has installed him as the leading candidate for the Best Player of the Conference (BPC) award in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup.

The former San Beda standout amassed 41.9 statistical points (SPs) at the close of the elimination round, which saw the Road Warriors post a 10-2 record en route to clinching the top seed in the playoffs. 

The 30-year-old Bolick averaged solid numbers of 20.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.8 steals, while leading the tournament in assists with an 8.8 average per game.

At the No. 2 spot in the BPC award race is San Miguel Beer star slot man June Mar Fajardo who, at 36, remains a force to reckon with in the PBA.

Fajardo, who holds the all-time record of 13 BPC awards has 39.5 SPs, powered by averages of 16.8 points, a league-best 14.8 rebounds among locals, along with 2.5 assists and 1.0 steals for the sixth seeded Beermen.

Ginebra’s sophomore guard RJ Abarrientos, who led the tournament in scoring with a 21.5 points per game average, is at No. 3 in the race with 37.5 SPs. 

Phoenix athletic guard Ricci Rivero is at fourth spot with 34.9 SPs behind averages of 20.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.

The former University of the Philippines and La Salle superstar helped the Fuel Masters make the playoffs for the first time in two years.

Magnolia’s athletic big man Zavier Lucero is at No. 5 with 33.5 SPs. 

The 6-foot-6 Lucero, the tournament’s top shot blocker with a 1.9 average, submits solid numbers of 15.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.

Rounding out the top 10 in the BPC race are Terrafirma’s Jerrick Ahanmisi (32.8 SPs), Scottie Thompson of Barangay Ginebra (32.2), San Miguel’s athletic wingman CJ Perez (31.6), Schonny Winston of NLEX (31.1) and Meralco’s CJ Cansino (29.9). RICHARD DY
