SEN. Bong Go has sent his outreach team to Makati City to provide aid to families affected by a recent fire, while reiterating his call for stronger disaster preparedness and improved emergency response nationwide.
The relief operation was conducted at the barangay hall, where 29 families received food packs, snacks, vitamins, water containers, shirts, electric fans and balls.
They also received financial assistance, while selected beneficiaries received additional support, including shoes.
In a message to the beneficiaries, Go said helping disaster victims is part of his responsibility as a public servant.
He underscored the need for long-term disaster resilience, citing Republic Act 12076, or the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act, which he principally authored and co-sponsored.
The law mandates the establishment of permanent, disaster-resilient evacuation centers in every city and municipality.
He also renewed his call for accountability in the use of public funds intended for disaster mitigation and infrastructure projects.
“I am with the Filipino people in the fight against corruption. If the funds wasted on flood control were used properly, several hospitals, health centers, schools, and evacuation centers would have been built. The evacuation center — that’s the law — that’s where the funds should be used,” Go said in Filipino.
He also highlighted RA 11589, or the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act of 2021, which seeks to strengthen the country’s firefighting capabilities through the acquisition of modern equipment, enhanced personnel training, and improved institutional support for the bureau.
As vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Go also emphasized the importance of ensuring access to health care services, particularly for indigent patients.
