DEMONSTRATING his commitment to responding swiftly to communities in crisis, Sen. Bong Go personally visited the site of a fire incident in Barangay 20, Manila City, on Monday, June 8.
Despite having a scheduled relief activity in Barangay 275 on the same day, Go made time to stop at the fire-hit community to assess the situation firsthand and assure affected residents that government assistance was forthcoming.
Later that evening, members of his Malasakit Team returned to Barangay 20 to distribute relief assistance and provide support to families displaced by the fire.
The team conducted a follow-up relief operation on June 11, extending aid to additional victims affected by the incident.
The senator’s team distributed financial assistance, grocery packs, vitamins, shirts and sports equipment, including basketballs and volleyballs, to help affected families cope with the disaster’s aftermath.
Recognizing the hardships faced by residents who lost their homes and belongings, Go expressed concern for their welfare and emphasized the importance of immediate assistance and community solidarity during times of crisis.
“Things can be bought, money can be earned, but life cannot be earned with money. As I said, let’s pray; let’s help each other. What’s important is that we are alive and we are here,” Go said.
The senator underscored the need to strengthen fire prevention and emergency response capabilities nationwide.
He cited Republic Act (RA) 11589, or the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act of 2021, which he authored and co-sponsored.
The law mandates a 10-year modernization program for the Bureau of Fire Protection, including enhanced training, acquisition of modern equipment, recruitment of additional personnel, and intensified fire prevention campaigns in coordination with local government units.
Go reaffirmed his commitment to assisting Filipinos affected by calamities and encouraged residents to remain hopeful as they recover from the incident.
