MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go condoled with the families of four students from Sta. Maria National High School in Santa Maria, Bulacan, who died of leptospirosis, urging people exposed to floodwaters to take the disease seriously and seek medical advice promptly.
The four students were identified as John Carl Corpuz, Prince John Fernando, Andrei Mariano, and Mark Daniel Oquelda. Their deaths occurred between Sept. 1 and 15, according to reports citing the school.
"This is truly heartbreaking. Four children, four lives, and so many dreams that could have been fulfilled," Go said, extending his condolences to the students’ families, friends, teachers and the entire school community.
He urged those who had recently waded through floodwaters not to wait for severe symptoms before consulting a health professional.
“If we have waded through floodwaters, we should not take it lightly. Let’s not wait for the condition to worsen before seeking medical advice. It is better to seek early treatment, especially for our children and other vulnerable members of the family," Go said.
