Bonnie Tyler’s close friend speaks out after singer ‘went into cardiac arrest’ in Portugal

Bonnie Tyler's close friend has spoken out after the singer was placed into an induced coma to aid her recovery following emergency intestinal surgery in Portugal.

It was revealed last week that the 74-year-old was rushed into a hospital near her home in Faro for the procedure and was recuperating.

ITV reported on Tuesday (12 May) that Tyler went into cardiac arrest when doctors tried to bring her out of an induced coma following surgery for a burst appendix.

Tyler's close friend Liberto Mealha told the broadcaster that doctors are "positive," but "so far, it's not that good."

Tyler’s spokesperson said on Tuesday (12 May): “As of this morning, Bonnie remains seriously ill but stable in hospital in Faro, however her doctors are still positive that she will make a full recovery.

He added that the family has been distressed by many “lurid and untrue rumours” and ask for “privacy and decency at this difficult time”.
