Border agency foils diesel smuggling attempt, detains 2 Thai men

 AKPS foils subsidised diesel smuggling, detains 2 Thai men and seizes 1,700 litres of fuel and two vehicles worth over RM105,000.

BUKIT KAYU HITAM: The Malaysia Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has foiled an attempt to smuggle subsidised diesel.

Two Thai men were detained at the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex here last night.

Bukit Kayu Hitam AKPS commander SAC Mohd Nasaruddin M Nasir said the suspects were detained separately during exit checks.

The first man, aged 30, was detained at 4.49 pm after an inspection of his Toyota Hilux.

Officers found an additional tank containing 900 litres of diesel, valued at an estimated RM2,772.

The vehicle, worth RM40,000, was also seized.

A second Thai man, in his 40s, was detained at 7.45 pm on suspicion of using the same method.

His Toyota Hilux was found with an additional tank containing 800 litres of diesel, worth an estimated RM2,464.

The total seizure of 1,700 litres of diesel and both vehicles is valued at an estimated RM105,236.

Mohd Nasaruddin said the cases have been handed over to the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

They will be investigated under sections 6 and 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – Bernama
