Kota Kinabalu: A Threads user has raised concerns after allegedly finding fish inside every squid purchased from the City's Central Market.
In a post, the user claimed to have bought one kilogramme of squid, comprising seven squids, and discovered that each squid contained one or two ikan basung (round scads) of similar size.
The user questioned whether the fish had been intentionally placed inside the squids to increase their weight and the amount paid by customers, saying the discovery raised concerns about possible tampering.
The user also tagged State Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar and urged the relevant authorities to investigate the matter.
The post has since attracted attention online, with several commenters claiming they had encountered similar experiences when purchasing squid, while others said such practices, if proven, could damage the reputation of honest seafood traders and undermine consumer trust.
