GERIK - A 12-year-old boy was injured after being punched and kicked by his father at their home in Kampung Perah on Sunday, just one day after celebrating his birthday.
According to Gerik district police chief Superintendent Zulkifli Mahmood, the boy's aunt brought him home on Saturday evening to celebrate his birthday.
"The boy was supposed to stay with his aunt overnight and return home the next evening.
"However, on Sunday at around 5pm, the boy's father came to the house and immediately started punching and kicking him on the back.
"The 37-year-old man even swung a machete at the boy, but thankfully it missed," he said in a statement today.
The injured boy was taken to Gerik Hospital for treatment, where he was diagnosed with soft tissue injuries on his back and thighs.
Police arrested the suspect earlier today.
"Further investigation will be conducted under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children Act 2001," Zulkifli added.
