Ah, the age-old debate of whether boycotts can single-handedly tank an entire economy!

It is like watching a comedy show, but with real consequences.

In the latest episode of "Politicians Behaving Badly," we have Umno's Youth chief, Akmal Saleh, and DAP's leader from Perak, Nga Kor Ming, engaging in a battle of wits that would make a rock look like a genius.

Akmal, in a stunning display of economic prowess, questioned if boycott campaigns were the reason for the nation's economic woes.

He then proceeded to give a history lesson, pointing out that during Najib's reign, there were boycotts too, but miraculously, the economy improved.

“During (former prime minister) Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s time, there were also boycott campaigns held, but the economy managed to improve.

“To the not-so-smart (Nga), the country’s economy is bad because there are ministers like you! Stupid!” Akmal said.

Move over, Adam Smith, we have a new economic theory in town: the "Boycott-And-Thrive" model, made in Malaysia.

Not to be outdone, Nga swooped in with his own nugget of wisdom, cautioning against falling into the trap set by instigators. “Don’t even fall into the trap set by instigators. Our nation needs cooperation from all parties to advance our economy,” Nga said.

Yes, because clearly, it is s those pesky boycotters, not the politicians, who are the real architects of economic disaster.

Forget about inflation, debt, or global market trends—boycotts are the real enemy here!

In this theater of the absurd, where politicians play the roles of economic experts, it is easy to forget that behind the witty retorts and Twitter spats are real issues that affect real people.

Perhaps instead of trading barbs, online, our esteemed leaders could focus on actually solving problems and improving the lives of those they were elected to serve.

Forget your soliloquy on Facebook and Musk's X, go meet face-to-face and sort it. Aren't you guys from the same coalition that is supposed to run this beautiful country we call Malaysia?

But hey, that's just wishful thinking in the land of political theater.
