According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is expected to be officially named MVP in the following hours.

Should it be confirmed this Sunday, this puts him in rare company. Only Magic Johnson, Steve Nash, Stephen Curry and Michael Jordan had previously won back-to-back MVPs as guards.

And his impact in the league during recent seasons is already drawing comments and comparisons involving some of the greatest stars the NBA has ever seen.

Brandon Jennings refuses debate after saying Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a top-3 point guard of all-time

Former NBA guard Brandon Jennings wasted no time reacting to the news of Gilgeous-Alexander’s second MVP.

Once a Bucks scorer, he is now known for outspoken basketball commentary, and he wrote on X: “SGA is top 3 point guards of all time! At the age of 27. I’m not debating, I don’t care.”

Jennings then made his personal ranking clear, adding: “Steph, Magic and SGA.”

The reaction was mixed. One fan disagreed sharply, writing: “Not even close. PG is supposed to make his team better. Distribute the ball, control the floor… SGA is about SGA.”

Another response was more measured, but still cautious: “Don’t know if I’m willing to put Shai over Jerry West and Oscar Robertson yet.”

That probably captures the real debate. Gilgeous-Alexander’s peak is already historic, but placing him above older legends requires weighing position, longevity and era.

Jennings clearly does not want that discussion. His point was simple: Shai’s second MVP has already moved him into a level most guards never reach.
