Police are actively searching for four men suspected of carrying out an armed robbery at a jewellery store within a shopping mall in Kajang earlier this afternoon.
According to Kajang district deputy police chief, Superintendent Mohamad Nasir Drahman, initial investigations indicate that the suspects, who were masked and clad in security guard uniforms complete with gloves, infiltrated the jewellery store located on the first floor of the mall at approximately 3:17 PM.
"The suspects used a steel hammer to shatter the glass display cases and proceeded to seize the jewellery items," Supt. Mohamad Nasir detailed. He further disclosed that the robbers were armed, carrying two pistols and a rifle. In a dramatic turn during the heist, the assailants fired a shot into the wall before making their escape to the basement car park.
Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the mall and collecting witness statements to aid in the investigation. Supt. Mohamad Nasir emphasized that the total value of the stolen items is still under assessment. The case is being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, which stipulates severe penalties for crimes involving firearms.
