Police have confirmed a major heist involving losses amounting to about RM3.2 million in a dramatic robbery at a goldsmith shop located within a shopping centre in Kajang yesterday. The incident, which has left the community in shock, was meticulously executed by a group of four armed men.
Kajang Deputy Police Chief, Superintendent Mohamad Nasir Drahman, disclosed that seven individuals, including employees of the targeted goldsmith shop, have already been questioned to aid the ongoing investigation. "We will summon several other witnesses to provide statements soon," he assured, indicating that the probe is far from over.
Details of the heist reveal a well-coordinated plan. At approximately 3:17 PM, four masked men, disguised in security guard uniforms and equipped with gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints, entered the premises on the first floor of the shopping centre. The assailants were not only armed with a hammer, which they used to smash the glass display cases, but they were also believed to be carrying two pistols and a shotgun, adding to the gravity of the situation.
Witnesses described a tense scene as the robbers executed their plan with precision. A warning shot was fired towards a wall inside the shop, likely intended to intimidate and prevent any interference. Following the theft of the jewellery, the suspects made a swift exit, fleeing through the basement parking area, which may have facilitated their escape from the crime scene.
The boldness and apparent planning behind this robbery have raised concerns about security measures in place at shopping centres and goldsmith shops. The police have intensified their efforts to track down the suspects and bring them to justice. Meanwhile, the community remains on edge, awaiting further developments in the investigation.
As authorities continue to gather evidence and testimonies, this incident stands as a stark reminder of the potential risks faced by high-value retail establishments and the need for heightened security protocols.
