Police authorities have apprehended three individuals suspected of participating in rioting, verbally abusing law enforcement officers, and assaulting bystanders at the site of an accident along the Kuala Lumpur-Kuantan road near Temerloh, specifically at KM127.

According to Pahang's police chief, Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman, the three suspects, aged between 37 and 47, are believed to be relatives of the accident victim. Some of them have prior records related to altercations and public disturbances.

Yahaya Othman mentioned during a press conference at the Kick-Off Programme for Crime Prevention and Drug Suppression 2024 in Pahang that efforts are underway to locate two additional suspects to aid in the ongoing investigation.

Further details provided by the authorities revealed that the 75-year-old driver of a Perodua Myvi involved in the accident was briefly detained and questioned before being released on police bail.

Previously reported by Bernama, the police had identified a group of individuals linked to the incident, which occurred following a collision resulting in the fatality of a 20-year-old male at the scene.

The victim, employed at a scrap metal shop, succumbed to severe head and leg injuries after his motorcycle collided with the Perodua Myvi allegedly performing a U-turn on double lines.

Eyewitnesses reported that during the aftermath, a group of men engaged in confrontations with a police sergeant present at the scene, with one individual claiming to have been assaulted by five assailants for recording the altercation involving law enforcement.

In addition to addressing immediate law enforcement concerns, Yahaya Othman outlined long-term objectives aimed at combating drug abuse within Felda areas in Pahang. He emphasized the importance of ongoing awareness programs, particularly targeting youths, given the alarming trend of drug abuse starting as early as age 15.

The goal is to transform the image of Felda communities from being associated with substance abuse to becoming drug-free environments. Despite primarily impacting locals, external influences also contribute to drug-related challenges, as evidenced by last year's statistics indicating 236 arrests in Felda areas, constituting 41 percent of all arrests under Special Prevention Measures.
