On 30 August 2024, Kelapa Sawit celebrates Malaysia Independence Day. It is a celebration full of a great sense of pride and solidarity among the people, as well as brilliant lights and the Malaysian flag.

Merdeka Day, or Hari Kemerdekaan, commemorates the day Malaysia became independent in 1957. This significant day marks the emergence of an independent country, independence, and self-determination. Malaysians from around the nation gather to commemorate this momentous day annually, reflecting on the challenges and victories that led to the country's independence.

The bridge, which is adorned with lights and flags, serves as a potent metaphor for Malaysia's journey since gaining its independence. The people across the bridge stand in for the harmony and advancement attained over time. The banner, which reads, "Safe and Peaceful Bridge across the River Sands," alludes to the unity and stability of Malaysia, a multicultural country.

The Jalur Gemilang's presence, proudly waving alongside the bridge, strengthens the sense of common purpose and national pride. The states and federal territories of Malaysia are represented by each stripe and star on the flag, which embodies the national slogan, "Bersekutu Bertambah Mutu" (Unity is Strength). The flag being flown at this local festival serves as a reminder that Merdeka Day is a highly personal occasion for all Malaysians, no matter where they live.

Hari Kemerdekaan is a day to commemorate independence, consider the path towards becoming a country, and reaffirm Malaysia's dedication to unity in diversity. It serves as a tangible representation of Malaysians' pride in their nation and their common aspiration for a thriving future. With its symbolic meaning, the lit bridge calls on all Malaysians to keep walking hand in hand over it as they build the country's future on the work of the generations that came before them.
